Authorities in Wichita are continuing to investigate the death of Julia Felt, who was found deceased on Tuesday morning at Cessna Park in the southeast part of the city.
According to the Wichita Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 8:30 a.m. to the area near Kincade and Wallace, close to Mount Vernon and Woodlawn, after reports of an unresponsive woman in a parking lot within the park. When officers arrived, they located the woman, who was already deceased at the scene.
Investigators noted that she appeared to have been in the area for an undetermined period before being discovered. While initial observations at the scene suggested the victim might have been younger, her identity was later confirmed as Julia Felt, a 47-year-old woman, after notification of next of kin and standard identification procedures.
Early findings have suggested a possible drug overdose, though authorities have stressed that this is only a preliminary assessment. The final determination regarding the cause and manner of death will be made by the Sedgwick County Medical Examiner’s Office following a full autopsy and toxicology testing.
Police have stated that there are no immediate signs of foul play at this stage, but the investigation remains open and ongoing. Officials emphasized that all possibilities are still being considered until the medical examiner’s findings are completed.
Following the discovery, Cessna Park was temporarily secured as investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. Authorities also asked the public to avoid the area while investigative work was underway.
As the investigation continues, officials say more information will be released once confirmed findings are available from the medical examiner’s office.
